Poser

So here is the big question: Is something created in poser art? or is it legalized plagiarism?
I would start a poll.... only I'm not subscribed and it wouldn't let people explain their reasoning. So I hereby begin the great debate: Poser, art or plagiarism?
Post you argument here and find out what others think!

poser is only a tool like a hammer or screwdriver. the actual end result is what the artist can do with it.
:iconmudanis:
Ah yes but is it art if I cut and paste the monalisa in a new pose? I suppose you are right, but I still feel that there is only so far you can go with poser.

there is more to a render than the objects. lighting, textures, inspiration, perspective.... there is alot theat the ';poser' can bring to the image :D they deserve less credit than someone who models each thing themselves, but can still contribute something meaningful i reckon.

don't mean to bash your ears, but you asked for an opinion...

No its good! I want discussion and reason, not "is too!" "is not!" I still think it is obvious when something is made in poser, it has a "feel" to it that personally I don't like. Weather that makes it art or not? *shrugs* they say art is in the eye of the beholder.

 I am a Poser "click" artist .. I didn't approve before I started. It is a drug and an addiction to me..but a lot less bodily harmful and more socially acceptable than a lot of other addictions.
Is it art?
I don't know...nor do I really care. It's one of those possibly neverending debates.
People have managed to market the most random objects and "creations" as "Art"!.
Is anything produced on a computer really art?
Is a photograph taken with a digital camera really a photograph.
Should I be concerving pixels?
Aaaaah bah....off to click ;-)

You are right, there are some really weird things out there called art. Is it art if you pose a barbie doll, or is the art in the creation of the doll? Or both? I guess for me it can be about the level of effort put into the piece. Is poser hard? can you put your own stuff into poser? The fact that you "buy" poser models makes it seem more like a toy.

;-) There are so many debates...and I am no good at debating
I understand why people sneer at what I do .. my husband calls it "computer collage" which in essence I suppose it is...but I am learning from it & growing with it. It has changed my outlook, opened my eyes to all sorts of things and essentially given us a way forward when we were stuck on an isolated island with a failing business.
Because I got addicted to Poser and this odd "art form" we understood the concept when given the chance to get a 3d laser scan done of the standing stones our business is next to..& we are busy working on the development of this data. It has opened a world for us that neither of us ever thought possible...it has given him a career.
You can import anything into Poser..you can model with it create textures lighting, props, plugins etc, etc....there is of course a whole mini economy running off it. I see that as a good thing not a bad thing...when people are making money they feel validated.
Essentially I suppose I do see it as an art form....yes they are "dollies" but depending on how you use and manipulate them they can be very decorative dollies..
To me it is all a learning experince...and a stress relief that keeps me off strong drugs and drink!!

Wow. It seems that for you this has been a very good thing. Please understand that I would never "sneer" at someones efforts. You should see my attempts at drawing :( I merely want to prompt discussion. I did not intend for this to become personal, foolishly I suppose because our art can come from very personal places. Do you think you may move on to more powerful programs? Or create your own content for poser?

 I was just trying to make the point that it does not really matter what "tools" you use...if you learn from it and grow with it it is a GOOD thing. Poser just happens to be the program I stumbled across ;-)... Just like I use Paint Shop Pro a lot more than Photoshop because it was the program I learned on. We have both moved on to other programs as well. My husband (who has never done anything like it in his life) is working on impressive 3d animations in Vue6. I have Blender as well but have never really used it. I would love to learn to texture and create my own characters and such...but there are so many others doing this so efficiently and I am terrible at making money and marketing myself and what I do ;-)
It's a funny thing ... I do not see myself as an artist LOL but I see everyone else in the industry (and it is indeed an industry) as artistic. I view other peoples poser work as art....but not necessarily my own.
